1/2 a year old!

HAPPY 6 MONTH BIRTHDAY, LUCY!!!

Think she was over the photo shoot??

Lucy has changed SO much in the past month...
  • She is sitting up all by herself for long periods of time.
  • She is grabbing, reaching and raking...nothing within her reach is safe.
  • If she can get her hands on it, it immediately goes to her mouth.
  • She has tried all of the stage 1 foods, but she doesn't like any of them.
  • While sitting, she is stretching her arms out really far in front of her and rocking forward.
  • Still sucking on her fingers ALL of the time...
  • She is sleeping on her stomach!!!
  • She will occasionally reach for me if someone else is holding her...I love it!
  • She has always loved bath time, but she really loves it now that she can sit up and play with toys.
  • She thinks every cup or water bottle is her HER bottle...she will reach for it and open her mouth really wide. So funny!
  • She loves to go on walks.
  • She HATES her car seat.
  • She tries to pet Lady, but is a little rough...she grabs poor Lady's hair.
  • She is still smiling all of the time!
  • She is a busy little girl, we can't turn our back on her for long...
We love you so much, Babaluce!

Can't believe...

...that Lucy is 5 months old. Where did the time go? When did Lucy go from this...

...to this...

Here are a few things about this sweet baby at 5 months old:
  • She can sit on her own for about 30 seconds, but then tumbles to the side.
  • She rolls over both ways, but hasn't quite achieved the log roll.
  • She still has her fingers in her mouth ALL of the time...and I mean all of the time.
  • She loves her lamb security blanket and we usually find her holding it every morning.
  • She is soooo happy...always smiling and laughing!
  • She always wakes up between 5:00-5:30...she just talks to herself for a few minutes and then goes right back to sleep.
  • She loves to lay on her play mat and look at the Christmas tree.
  • She has tried rice cereal, prunes and apples, but didn't like any of it. :/
  • She loves the sound of her voice (or at least that is what we think)...she is currently making this funny high pitched sound that makes us think she is trying to yell.
  • She pulls her knees up under her chest while on her stomach...practice movements for crawling we assume.
  • She is starting to really recognize people...especially momma and daddy (which we of course love).
  • She has really started to notice Lady and reaches for her like she is trying to pet her...she also talks to Lady.
  • Lucy's hair has started to grow back and it looks blonde...

Happy 5 month birthday, sweet angel! We love you more and more each day!

Congrats and an accident...

Lucy and I made a quick trip to Dallas on Tuesday to celebrate with Megan...

...she graduated with her masters! Congratulations, Aunt Megan! We are proud of you!

While in Dallas we had an accident...I debated even blogging about this, but I want this blog to be real, so here we go...
We had just arrived in our hotel room when I heard Lucy making her bathroom noises. She had been having some constipation issues over the past week, so this was GREAT! I laid her on the bed, allowed her to finish, and then started to change her diaper. I felt like I needed to examine this particular dirty diaper (Jay would say I feel the need to examine every dirty diaper), so I turned around to examine it under the lamp. Suddenly, I heard a thud. At this point I had what we like to call a 'Megan moment' in our family...I turned around and actually thought to myself, "where did Lucy go?" In my last post I said she was close to rolling over; milestone accomplished. She had done a double roll (know it was double because she was in the center of the bed) right off the end of the bed. I have never been so scared in my whole life! She was screaming of course, but was quickly comforted after I picked her up. And she actually started to smile at me through her tears...so forgiving. My mom arrived minutes later, thank goodness. I didn't even want to tell her what had just happened because I was so embarrassed, but I needed her to tell me Lucy was okay. My mom assured me she was fine and that we would continue to watch her the rest of the evening. I guess babies really are more durable than we think...not that I am trying to test her durability! Accidents happen, right? :/

Thriving!

We went for Lucy's four month check-up yesterday. Dr. Dawson's comment, "this little girl is thriving!!" The reason for this comment...

Height: 25 inches (85th percentile)
Weight: 15 lbs 13.5 oz (85th percentile)
Head circumference: 42.5 cm (90th percentile)

The shots were terrible this time...no tears, no sound, breathless crying that caused her lips to turn blue and the nurse to tell her to BREATHE! She was quickly comforted after I picked her up, but she was definitely much more aware this time. I know it will only get worse as she gets older.

Here are a few things about Lucy at four months...
  • She has her hands in her mouth all of the time and is constantly drooling.
  • She loves to suck on her middle fingers...as you can see in the pictures below.
  • She has discovered her feet and tries to put them in her mouth.
  • She is sooo close to rolling over from her back to her stomach...just can't quite get the momentum to roll over her shoulder yet.
  • She can tripod sit for about ten seconds, but then falls to one side.
  • When she wants our attention, she knows how to get it with a cry or squeal.
  • She prefers to be sitting or standing as opposed to laying flat.
  • She is grasping toys, rattles, hair, earrings, anything she can wrap those little fingers around.
  • She attempts to hold her own bottle.
  • She sleeps 11-12 hours at night without waking up. Yes, I know this is too good to be true.
  • She LOVES to look at herself in the mirror...she talks, smiles and squeals at that baby looking back at her...easy entertainment and is so funny to us.
  • She has the most pathetic sad face, a face that she knows works with her daddy!
Just a glimpse of the sad face I was talking about...much better in person!

Happy 4 month birthday sweet girl! We love you!
